Owl Cake Topper

Alanna had seen this cake topper on Etsy:
and had been wanting it, but at almost $200 with shipping, It was not in our budget. So after a trip to Hobby Lobby and a little bit of googling or McGoogling as I call it, (don't know why...just sounds funny), this is what I made for less than $40:

What do you think?
I am going to change the rope out for smaller rope or ribbon. We are going to use this at the reception.
At the wedding, we are probably going to get a cake that looks more beachy... maybe something like this:

Weekend At The Beach

We went to Orange Beach a couple of weekends ago. We were invited by the girls' Dad and New Mommy. The girls and I along with their fellers went down a day early so that we could scope out the beach houses that we are renting (for a great deal on beach house rentals in Fort Morgan go to www.ourgulfshoresvacation.com)  for the wedding and a place for everyone to go eat after the wedding. (We are not having a reception at the beach because we are having a At Home Reception two weeks after the wedding)
This is what we found:
Point Clear A&B (Left) Duplex where wedding will take place on beach,
Fountain Of Youth (Right) Beach House were Billy (Alanna's Dad) and Family will stay.

We hope to be able to reserve the private dining area here for everyone
that wants to go eat after the ceremony.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I am in the process of helping my oldest daughter, Alanna, plan her wedding that will be next Memorial Day Weekend, May 26th, 2012, in Fort Morgan, Alabama. We are having a small Beach Wedding and then 2 weeks later, we are having a At Home Reception.  I know some people think that it is way too early to start planning, but we have alot of projects that we are doing ourselves and this way we will have plenty of time to get them done and we can pay for things a little bit at a time. The kids like to say that I don't have a life, so this also gives me something to do. I will share our project ideas and our results as we go.
